“Fear is a phoenix. You can watch it burn a thousand times and still it will return.”
I’ve just finished this book a moment ago and my feeling is still so raw.
Crooked Kingdom is my most anticipated book of this year. I’d been waiting for it like a thousand years, and when it was out, I didn’t hesitate to start reading even if the exam was coming. The first few chapters grabbed me, made me want more and tore me apart with their effective twists and turns. Crooked Kingdom has Now You See Me vibes. All of the characters are fantastic and interesting. Kaz Brekker became my favorite character after I had saw where the story turned out, and without him, this book couldn’t be unputdownable and amazing like this.
Nina and Matthias is my main ship. I ship them so hard as if I can go crazy because of them. And if you are reading this line of my review and have already finished the book, you will know why I didn’t five stars to Crooked Kingdom. I mean… I could see the potentials in this book, many of them astounded and shocked me no end. I saluted Leigh Bardugo with six shots for creating such a cunning and endearing story. Not so many books can get into my pores and reach my heart, but this book can. I can’t believe that this is the end of Six of Crows series because I don’t know what I’m supposed to read next.
“I would have come for you. And if I couldn’t walk, I’d crawl to you, and no matter how broken we were, we’d fight our way out together-knives drawn, pistols blazing. Because that’s what we do. We never stop fighting.”
Jesper and Wylan are phenomenal. I could see, from Six of Crows, that there was something between them, but I was not so sure Leigh would lead the story to the point I wanted to. (spoiler—>) But she finally did, and I was glad for it. I liked the way Jesper thinks of Wylan and Wylan always blushes whenever he’s near Jesper. It’s so cute and I can die peacefully with no regreat.
The only problem that is unacceptable for me is (spoiler—>) Matthias. I loved him so damn much it hurt, but you eventually killed him with no impact or something. Nina howls and it ends like that. His death is hallow and nothing comes out of it. I almost pitited Nina, yet it seems Leigh didn’t want to write about her after that chapter anymore. It’s not okay. I crave to see more of her, or him, or whoever. And she left me hanging like that ! Thank you, Leigh Bardugo. Thank you so much !
“And that was what destroyed you in the end: the longing for something you could never have.”
For those who haven’t read these stunning books yet, I really recommend you to try Six of Crows and see that it’s your taste or not (and I hope you’ll like it as much as I do). All in all, Crooked Kingdom is worth every minute and second. This book is full of heartwreching events and badass characters. It’s wickedly AWESOME !
“Don’t worry, Da. People point guns at each other all the time in Ketterdam. It’s basically a handshake.”
I wish it would have another book and Nina was a main character.
“You’re stupid about a lot of things, Wylan, but you are not stupid. And if I ever hear you call yourself a moron again, I’m going to tell Matthias you tried to kiss Nina. With tongue.”
Wylan wiped his nose on his sleeve. “He’ll never believe it.”
“Then I’ll tell Nina you tried to kiss Matthias. With tongue.”
