As a member of the Bourbon Street Boys private security firm, Antoinette “Toni” Delacourte is one strong woman, but despite her reputation for being tough as nails, she is haunted by her past mistakes. Now they’re catching up to her, and throwing her for a loop.
Ten years ago, Toni kissed Lucky, her brother’s best friend. Worried it would break apart the group she’d come to see as family, she walked away—straight into the arms of Charlie, and an abusive relationship.
For the past decade she’s tried to keep her feelings for Lucky platonic—he’s her friend, her colleague, and he’s got his own past to deal with. Free of Charlie but unable to shake his memory, Toni finds herself feeling vulnerable and unable to deny her attraction to Lucky any longer.
She’s always thought that kiss was her first mistake, but now she’s wondering whether the real mistake was running away.
Bourbon Street gang – is a three part series but can be read as a standalone!
I am not sure about the other ladies on GR but I think if you went to a bar sitting alone this is what happens to most of us ladies. Ugh I hate men that think if you are at a bar you are available – if you catch my drift!
First wrong question:
“You here with someone?” Ship looks around the room
“I will be”
His eyes light up and as soon as I see his reaction: I’ve given him hope. I put my drink down on the bar and shake my head. “I’m waiting for somebody else.”
He loses a bit of his smile. “Oh yeah, sure. Someone else. He must be late” My new friend makes a big show of checking his watch.
“What’s the matter?” I ask. “Does it piss you off that I’m waiting for someone else?”
“No. It doesn’t piss me off”
Your body language says otherwise.” I smile even bigger, taking a sip from my drink.
Bring on the vodka-tequila-rum-gin-and-triple-sec buzzzz….
Skip’s body is as stiff as a board. “It wouldn’t bother me if what you were saying were true.”
I look at him sideways. “Are you calling me a liar?”
He shakes his head. “Women like you are all the same”
I say nothing. I stare at his as I take another sip of my drink. Can he not feel the icicles I’m launching into his soft body with my glare?
Luckily for Toni – unluckily for stalker the Bourbon Street gang, showed up~
Type of Characters and my choices according to pictures :
Toni Delacourte (I will describe her as a bitch with witty comebacks, she is uncertain but strong)
Lucky (Funny, sexy as sin and just a stunning character)
Didn’t we almost have it all- Whitney Houston
Well as you read the first chapter I which made some notes you will note Toni is sitting in a bar waiting for the rest of the Bourbon Street gang, one member especially Lucky, but whoa a few drinks in Toni and Lucky whole relationship takes a turn! So you can imagine too much alcohol and friends who liked each other from childhood well 1 + 1 = 2 *wink*
A little background about Toni she was in an abusive relationship and jail time!
See Toni do not trust easily so this make this book so much more interesting, as Lucky needs to work hard for her and the trust issues she has.
This book is about two childhood friends with really unsteady home lives, becoming better friends when both are more mature, then become lovers as the book progresses!
How am I supposed to live without you
These quotes is not part of the story but they are so good not to share!
