A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of curious photographs.

A horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows.

“I used to dream about escaping my ordinary life, but my life was never ordinary. I had simply failed to notice how extraordinary it was.”

I don’t believe I like this book so much ! Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children, the title is too long I call it Miss P, is a book that I didn’t expect anything at all the first time I read. Those photos are creepy, I didn’t even want to start reading. Oh my poor heart ! Why does this book have to have those scary portraits in it ? I’m very scared of the first picture ! I exclaimed Holy sh*t out loud when I saw it, so I closed the book and swore ‘OMG ! I will not read it, no matter what’.

Three days later, I couldn’t resist its temptation anymore (shame on me). That made me begin this unstoppable adventure. Miss P is a treasure box, you won’t know anything about it when you read until the ending. The story starts off with a boy, named Jacob, finds out about the photos his grandad keeps it a secret. Everyone thinks he’s insane and the tale about those peculiar children hasn’t been real. Due to meeting the monster in his house, Jacob can’t believe what he saw, but it’s so real before his eyes. So his parents tag him as a mad boy after his grandad.

Jacob goes to the island where all of this story began a long time ago and he doesn’t know what he gets himself into…

Ransom Riggs, you’re such a smart writer ! How could you plot this story without slipping out any details until book three ? This book is beyond my expection after it passes 15%. It’s slow-paced at the beginning, but after Jacob find out about the truth, it’s so entertaining till the last page.

He surprises me with his twists and story. His narrative is charming and powerful, every incident in this book is well-planned, it left me shocked and hit my head upside down repeatedly more than other books could have done to me this year. Miss P has the historical vibes with its mysterous premise. The world-building is impeccably awesome for this genre. I want to know more about the children and Jacob, though. The characters aren’t flat, they have their weird characteristics that will bring you joy while you’re reading it.

“We cling to our fairy tales until the price for believing in them becomes too high.”

This book is dark, and I won’t say it’s a shining story with bubble gums. Miss P is a book will haunt you even when you try to sleep. The Hollow will follow you everywhere in your dream. The movie is also coming. I can’t wait until September because the book is so good, I have high hopes for the movie.
